Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

There are approximately 1600 members nationwide from almost every state. Membership in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is limited to those lawyers that are deemed by their peers and the judiciary to be experienced experts in family law completely capable of handling complex family law matters.

Texas is one of the largest chapters with approximately 120 fellows. Fellows in the Texas chapter are the leaders in bar organizations both nationally, statewide and locally. In addition to being considered the leaders in family law, they are often the speakers at continuing education programs. Fellows in Texas must be board certified for a minimum of five years. Initial information about joining together with the application may be obtained from the Executive Director, Lorraine West at lorraine@aaml.org.

Once your application is submitted to the national office, your referrals are contacted. Each fellow in the state submits their feedback. The completed application and all responses are submitted to the Board of Examination for the chapter who makes a recommendation to the national office. Upon receipt of the chapter information the national executive committee reviews the application and makes the final decision. The process often takes six to nine months for completion.

If you would like to know more about the chapter, contact any of the officers as they would be happy to answer your questions.
